NORFOLK, Va. (AP) - Barack Obama is calling the flack over his use of the phrase "lipstick on a pig" at a campaign stop "the latest made-up controversy by the John McCain campaign."

The McCain camp says the comment by Obama was directed at McCain's running mate, Sarah Palin. In her acceptance speech at the GOP convention last week, she joked that lipstick is the only difference between a hockey mom like herself and a pit bull.

The McCain campaign has put out an Internet ad slamming Obama for the remark, and it's demanding an apology.

Obama used the old "lipstick on a pig" phrase in criticizing McCain's economic policies as being similar to those of President Bush. He calls it an "innocent remark." And his campaign accuses the GOP camp of engaging in a "pathetic attempt to play the gender card." It's also pointing to instances of McCain using the same phrase.

Fozzy & Mork are a match made in heaven. Fozzy is way too serious and negative all the time. Mork is never serious and has no grasp of what is funny. They would coexist for about 2 seconds and then kill each other. Seriously, lets hook them up and then we will be rid of both of their nonsense.

Riiight.. you boys just keep telling yourself that the democratic majority in the house and senate are doing the people's work and have their support. It's not the Republicans who are in complete meltdown mode right now.

What's that Ardmoreite? That it makes you creative and insightful? That it enhances the thought process and allows you to transcend the mundane? That it actually makes you smarter and improves long-term memory? That it slows down, or even stops, the onset of Alzheimers? As more and more scientific research is performed by unbiased labs in nations outside America, this is exactly what they are discovering. OTTO: "smoke and mirrors = low intelligence = most republicans (conservatives). Thought that was obvious. What other group would continue to elect leaders who do not have their best interests at heart because they are so easily distracted by meaningless wedge issues like gay marriage and religious preference? But let's stay on topic: the McCain camp "outrage" over the "lipstick on a pig" comment was contrived as another wedge issue to keep your eyes off the real issues; just another distraction that you bought hook, line, and sinker. Not too bright, fellas. Wake up!

France and Canada are not the US and do not have the same constitution we have.. Canada has always had the protection of the US and therefor has never had to worry about 99% of the their own defense. France has only had to have their country given back to them by twice. Both Canada and France have elected conservative governments. As for the cry baby who is whining about the comments. I put my name in everyone and am the same person all the time. 90% of these annon posts are from the same core of people.. either join the discussions or shut up.

Biffco; aren't "smoke and mirrors" and misdirection the standard tools of the conservative argument? Fozzy; you say that "socialism is a failed concept" every where in the world. Have you told that to Canada, France, and a few other like minded nations? They might would like to know.

Posted by: Fozzy Location: Ardmore on Sep 13, 2008 at 12:30 AM
Well it is a fact that President Bush has a 20 something percent approval rating. The last time I checked, the libs in control of the house and senate are sitting and single digit approval ratings. I'm pretty proud of being in the percentage of people who still support the president and Commander in Chief who has led the military into a huge victory in Iraq. It must suck for Obama to admit having to admit that.

Ardmoreite - careful! your true colors are showing. Misdirection, condescension, ridicule, and character disparagement. All the tools of someone of low intelligence who can't argue the original point. I must have have really made you mad if you remember me so well (that was weeks ago) and feel the need to personally attack me. I am so flattered! Excuse me -choke- I promised myself I wouldn't cry... You must be part of that 'publican 26% approval rating that Shrub currently enjoys... We'll see in Nov. The country is only broken for those who want to blame others for their problems. Where is it written that the government is there to redistribute wealth? When the liberals got involved to make everything fair (medical care, housing etc) it is then that the problems start. I find it ironic that the American lemmings finance their plastic lives and have the call to complain about the government's deficit spending. The comment about the founding fathers is always funny to me!!! If you give some poor sap and a rich man a million dollars, within six months the rich man will have two million and the dumb poor man will have nothing. The problem is that to fix things you have to offer a plan, you cannot just blurt out that you want to change things when the only change is the name on the podium, surrendering gained ground and apologizing to terrorists and their supporters. Robin Hood was FICTION! Socialism is a failed concept everywhere in the world. And the stupid poor will always be so!

Check out the covers of the last two NewsWeek magazines featuring the candidates and their VP picks. Obama is wearing a flag pin while McCaines is absent. But I don't question his patriotism. Since when do you need to wear "bling" to show your love for your country, anyway? This is a silly distraction to move your eyes away from the very real damage that this country has suffered for the last 7 1/2 years. Acknowledging the flaws of the country does not mean you "hate" the USA. Far from it. In order to fix something, you must first acknowledge that it is broken. and the USA is broken. When the richest 1% of the population controls more wealth than the lowest 50% of the population, it is a republic in name only. What it really is is a kingdom, and we are the peasants - no wealth, no influence, and no power. The exact opposite of what the founding fathers wanted. George Washington and Thomas Jefferson are spinning in their graves. Heaven help us all.

Biffco, Obama LOVE AMERICA??? Patriotism??? He refuses to wear a US Flag Pin on his lapel! That was on CNN news! If that is someone who loves America and has Patriotism then that is the problem with our Country NOW!!! Give me a break. I'm a Democrat but I'm leaning towards McCain because of the lack of respect Obama already has shown to OUR Country.

Outrage! - I guess some people just can't appreciate sarcasm, or simply aren't smart enough to recognize it. Shambles...Well, lets see... The deficit is half a trillion, unemployment is the highest it's been in six years, the housing market has cratered, forclosures are at an all time high, real wages have stagnated while prices of practically everything have gone up dramatically. The standing of the United States in the World Community has suffered dramatically due to the arrogance and incompetence of our current leadership. Iraq is a quagmire sucking up resources and lives, and contrary to what you may believe, Strength and numbers of Al Quaida and the Taliban are on the rebound in Afganistan despite 7 years of the "War on Terror." And Bin Laden is STILL at large. The ONLY thing the USA is number one in anymore is incarceration. With 2.2 million in custody, we are the #1 Jailer in the World. Land of the free? Time to take a different tack or we are another Rome in the making.

Posted by: Fozzy Location: Ardmore on Sep 12, 2008 at 01:17 PM
That's funny John. I have yet to find a liberal that can even define logic or common sense. Or one who doesn't use the military dead for anything but some talking point. Wars cost money but peace doesn't simply mean the absence of war. Ask the Europeans what appeasement gets you. I find it ironic that liberals want to feed clothe and raise the unproductive in society and call that progress. Te liberal institutionally enslaves people and calls it progress. The US Military has freed millions of people and the liberals call them terrorists.. keep up the good work.

Posted by: John McSame Location: Texomaland on Sep 12, 2008 at 01:05 PM
Fozzy, you and Republican from Ardmore keep up the good work. Don't let those liberals deceive you with facts and common sense. If they tell you that 4,155 American soldiers have lost their lives in Iraq, you just say we're fighting them over there so we don't have to fight them here. If they tell you that private contractors have fleeced the American taxpayers, and the war is costing 10 billion a month, just tell them the surge is working. Keep them distracted and we can continue increase the deficit as we line the pockets of our big business cronies who got us elected. If they start talking about change, change the subject. Most Americans will never know the difference, and we can always blame the Democrats in Congress the last two years. It will be like the first six years never happened. I applaud you for following my playbook. Just look them in the eye and lie. Now that's straight talk we can believe in. If all else fails we can have Sarah field dress a moose on live TV. Cool, Huh?

My only problem with voting for McCan is Palin. Do you honestly think that a "hockey mom" should be in charge of the world's most powerful army ?If something happened to McCain, this VERY underqualified woman would be face to face with Putin, Chavez, and the rest of the idiots around the globe. I love what Matt Damon said about this shaping up to be some bad Disney movie.

This is more of NObama's elitest, ignorant views of what a mayor does! "The mayors have some of the toughest jobs in the country because that's where the rubber hits the road," he said. "We yikety yak in the Senate. They actually have to fill potholes and trim trees and make sure the garbage is taken away." NObama is so stupid that he doesn't realize that a mayor serves the public as an elected official, except in Ardmore where they appoint a commissioner as mayor (head puppet) for the whole commission, but anyway, that oversees the business of city government that serves the people. It's an elected position or executive position. A position where you are the "boss" and you tell your employees what to do! Has NObama ever been in a position of running a government? Palin has served as mayor in city government and as governor in state government! That's pretty good, Palin has more experience as an executive than the 3 men put together!

Will you people please tell me why you want this to continue. I got an idea, lets put educated people in office that the rest of the world actually likes & respects (I know that sound wierd because of the last 8yrs, but we do live in such a world now that we do need friends and right now we have none) Come on rednecks, it's time for a change!!!

So what if Obama IS Muslim? There are many Muslims who absolutely LOVE America. Obama is a Christian. And many will have a problem with a CIC who is Christian, but that's no reason for him or her not to be President. Mitt Romney is Mormon and no one suggested that he couldn't be Prez because of it. Whatever invisible man in the sky that you choose to worship has no bearing on your ability to lead or your patriotism. If Obama was a Muslim (which he's not), it might make him MORE qualified to be President. After the last "born again Christian" who held the office left things in a shambles...

After the first gulf war and the cease fire it was the Iraqi government's job to accept and follow the conditions of the cease fire that they signed in order to keep their country. They didn't and in fact they did everything BUT that. The government of Iraq also was funding terrorists abroad and was reported to and was boasting of and threatening the use of special weapons. Not the brightest thing to do while under a cease fire agreement. It's also not very smart to be firing missiles at coalition planes on an daily basis or trying to assassinate a president. Al of these are acts of war. They were finally and justifiably removed from power. The power vacuum and the infighting is something else entirely and of course the first reaction of the liberals were to blame it all on the president, call the US military incompetent, evil and terrorists and cut and run while bending over backwards attempting to apologizing to people who cut peoples heads off and blow themselves up for fun.

Undecided in Denison, I have left a link here for posters to go to where NObama did mention his Muslim faith. I can't help it if Chris Matthews and Keith Olberman work for KXII and don't posted it. There's a lot of comments that KXII doesn't post because NObama is a moma's boy! There's another story that came out today about Biden. Biden admitted that he may not have been the right choice for VP. And that Hillary was as equal or more qualified than he was to be VP. NObama's campaign is crumbling!

Dookey; of course Iraq is better off today because of the blood of Americans. What you seem to miss is the fact that it is not our job to make Iraq anything. That is there job. Our military is to protect our country, not be the police of the world. Were there legitimate needs in WWI and WWII? Of course. However, a simple diplomatic acceptance of Viet Nam's new regeime in the 40's, rather than backing imperialist France (who have since turned on us multiple times), would have prevented that long drawn out "police" action. Since then, that is the way we tend to view our military. As global police, rather than defenders of our country and our constitution.

Sparring with all of you sheep (you know, McBush supporters) has been real. I leave you with my final thoughts on this matter: We all know McCain has been a staunch supporter of Bush and his policies. His voting record is clear on that. We all know the kind of smear and fear campaign the McCain-Palin team has run. It's time for Americans to stand up and say, "Thanks but no thanks, we've been sold this bridge before. This time we aren't buying." See you in November.

Keep dodging Ralphie boy.. The fact is that the democrats on the ticket both have made statements about our military in less than stellar terms and many more high placed democrats have called our fine military everything from murderers to Nazis and called the President a terrorist. You know it, and I know it. Now you come in and make an asinine comment about a man who has more integrity than Obama ever dreamed of having. Obama is wrong on the war and lies when he says that he voted against the war when the moron wasn't even in office yet!!! Oh yeah, Voter, the Republicans/conservative are absolutely free of any double standards. Let's see, wasn't it Karl Rove who commended Palin for being the mayor of "the second largest city in Alaska" (pop 83,000), as part of what makes her so qualified, while belittling Gov. Tim Kaine's experience as mayor of Richmond (pop. 200,000) as showing how incompetent he would be as Obama's VP, saying, "it would be a political choice, where first and foremost he (Obama) would not be concerned if this person were ready to be president of the United States." He also referred to Richmond as the 105th largest city in the US. Also, Reps love to say Dems are "flip flopping on the issue," where when they do the same thing it is called "changing the platform." Want to see some more Republican double standards from your favs, like Bill O'Reilly? Fuzzy, I assume your comments are directed at the comment I made about McCain having been a POW. It is the only comment on this thread that even vaguely refers to anything military. You are SO typical of a right wing smear artist. NOTHING I wrote even hints at an attack on our military, and at no time in any thread have I ever referred to our military as being murderers of women and children. No one has questioned McCains bravery and sacrifice as a pilot shot down, captured, and tortured during the Viet Nam war. To suggest otherwise is an outright lie. McCain knows Obama's lipstick on a pig comment wasn't an attack on Palin. McCain used the exact same comment when he talked about Hillary's health care plan, and no one accused him of calling Hillary a pig (even if she is). To say that Obama would rather lose a war to win an election is just another example (and there are plenty more)how a once brave man has morphed into a candidate that has no honor.

Ralph, McCain is in a new fight and it's a political one, that's how it's played and NObama fell for it. He is weak and inexperienced. The Republicans are not going to hand over the White House without a fight. That's why Bush clobbered Kerry 4 years ago. Hillary warned NObama and the DNC what was going to happen, and they didn't listen to her. Now NObama is on his hands and knees begging for the Clintons' help. That's what happens when you send in a child to do a man's or woman's job. Now the media is trying to protect him from the evil's of the world. Seems like NObama is nothing more than a Moma's boy tied to the media's apron strings!

Obama is running scared. I do not approve of Clinton helping him. What has changed from the time period when she was running against him? She said he was not ready to be president then and now something has changed magically he according to her is ready. I remember several of her earlier comments and I do not approve of her speeches/comments now. Which of her speeches/comments are truths? This does not unite the Democrats - if the democrats listened to her earlier speeches. I am voting for McCain/Palin. Everyone needs to read Obama's books and research him before voting for him.

I see NObama is finally showing his true colors. He speaks of change but is the same old politican as his fellow Democrats. Obama should know all about what's phony since he is a phony! Just like the other day he admitted to being a MUSLIM then made an excuse saying it was a slip of the tongue. Seems like lately NObama has been having a slip of the tongue, or a case of idiots with a big mouth virus.

Now some high placed North Carolina Democrat party FEMALE has said that the only qualification that Governor Palin has is that she has never had an abortion.. WOW! The meltdown continues. Just when you think that the Democrats cannot say something more stupid or hostile.. they prove everyone wrong. Of course the Democrats say these things and then blame the Republicans for not playing fair?!?!?

THIS IS WHAT I HATE ABOUT THE WHOLE PROCESS!!!! Grown men and women acting like 2 yr olds. I understand they need to be seen and their views heard, but it just SICKENING when all they can think of is name calling...."she looked at me! He stuck his tongue out at me! Are we there yet! Are we there yet!!" DRIVES ME CRAZY!!! .... thank you, I feel bettter now...

Such a strange time for Obama to use that old fashion phrase " lipstick on a pig" when he is behind in the polls, due to someone who wears lipstick...

Obammie is really starting to look desperate and scared. This was on innocent remark. This was crafted to get a response from the audience. The Messiah simply forgot that there were open mikes and cameras there for everyone else to see and hear the comment. He also needs to realize that he is not running against George W. Bush. I guess that must have slipped his mind.
