As the summer winds down and temperatures start to fall, there’s plenty you can do take forward steps toward autumn. Jonathan Castro from Texoma Landscapes explains on this morning’s Gardening Texoma.

As temperature start to fall, your watering habits should change also. Late night watering between 11 p.m. and 6 a.m. is no longer necessary. A better time to water is anytime after sunrise to before sunset.

Also, clay soils are much more sensitive to fungal diseases such as “brown patch” and many more.

Now is also the best time to plant a fall/winter vegetable garden, perennials, shrubs, and trees. One gets 9 to 10 months of root growth before the next wave of major heat the following summer.

Also don’t forget to finish your pruning before the first frost, usually in November.
