DENISON, Tex. -- This week’s A+ Athlete is Shelby Brawley of Denison High School.

Shelby has 4.24 grade point average and has perfect attendance going all the way back to kindergarten. Those high marks have put her on the school’s honor roll.

Shelby says those closest to her have helped her every step of the way.

"Pretty much my family and teammates and God, and I just think having all that support makes it a lot easier to do it," Shelby says.

When she's not busy studying, Shelby is a standout on the Denison soccer team, track team, and volleyball team, where she has been a two-year varsity starter.

Her grades earned her a spot on the TGCA academic All-State Team, and her volleyball coach, Saundra Hess, is happy to have her on the team.

"She is a joy to be around, and she is very multi faceted. She’s got lots of different gifts, and she is blessed because she is good enough at time management that she can do lots of different things," her coach says.

Shelby is also involved in Angel Food Ministries, Meals On Wheels, and the Denison Youth Leadership Academy. When she graduates, Shelby hopes to go to Texas A&M University and become a teacher, because she says she has always looked up to them.

"They’ve always been good influences in my life, and I want to impact students the same."
