Wow, its already my fourth week on the job... and man does it fly by fast! It takes a lot to be a reporter, especially if you are new. But luckily I came from producing, so it makes the job a little bit easier!
So what does it take to be a reporter, you may ask? Its simple really, but very involved, if that makes any sense. I have to find a story and cover it, which sometimes is easy. But sometimes the facts of a story may be wrong... and its my job to verify everything. So finding a story, that sounds easy enough.... but unfortunately, they don't always come easy. And that's when it becomes involved.
A typical accident or house fire or criminal arrest.... those are great. Its those other stories that you have to go looking for that are difficult. But that is the part I love about this job! Its rewarding when I get to tell a victim's story... or get to the bottom of an investigation... or uncover something that no one else noticed. That's when I feel like I've done a story right. So it can be easy, yet very detailed.
For me, its not just about being on T.V. Its about bringing the news, good or bad, to the public. Its about shining the light on what is going on. Society has a right to know!
Not just anyone would cut it here. But luckily, I am organized and some what of a perfectionist... which I think are great qualities if you want to be in this business. It can be tough, but like I said, its very rewarding.
I may be the "newbie" but not for long. I hope to really get to know the people of this area and prove that as a reporter, I'm more than just girl with a mic!
