Because EVERYONE else is talking about this...

...So I will too. I've been asked a few times this week what my thoughts are on this whole OSU/ Mike Gundy/ Jenni Carlson/ "The Oklahoman" imbruglio. I don't think there's a clear-cut side on this. Gundy and the OSU staff have been mum about why Reid is no longer the Cowboys' starting QB. One could see how this leads to speculation in Stillwater. One could see how this leads to columns being written. Reid is a very talented athlete who would lead people to wonder why he's not the starter anymore. But to start a column with detailed picture of a chicken lunch... doesn't bode well. Carlson likely had sources, but those sources weren't very qualified in her column, which probably contributed to Gundy's anger. In his remarks to Carlson, Gundy said "[3/4] of this article is not true."

Perhaps Bob Stoops made the best point on Tuesday, when he said he finds it odd that the media can have an opinion about what they do, but seemingly, coaches can't have an opinion on the media. It should be a two-way street. We as the media report about what coaches do all day long. People care. There's a market for this. Unfortunately, thanks to the addition of cable television channels, more in-depth reporting, more games being broadcast and the internet, we have blurred the line between professional and amateur athlete. That's where it seems Gundy has the most problem with the article.

That, and the questioning of Bobby Reid's mettle, which understandably would be a touchy subject, especially since he is a college student. I'm glad I wasn't in a high-profile position in college.

If this seems like a novel, it's because this is a big deal. We as reporters should ask the questions that need to be asked. And Carlson, being an experienced reporter in a large market, asked the question. She knows how to do her job. She wouldn't be there otherwise. So maybe I'm being overly careful, seeing as how I'm not where Carlson is, but at least at my stage in the game, I have to qualify any theroies I have beyond heresay, quotes from previous games and chicken, even if what I know may be true.
