Avery Must Go

There are obviously a lot of changes the Mavericks must make during what figures to be a long and busy offseason.  They must start at the top.  Avery has lost this team.  Now it must lose Avery.  The Mavericks need a new direction, and while it may not all be Avery's fault, he has failed to push any of the right buttons.  The Mavericks were completely underwhelming in a season of high expectations.  Turns out the first round flame-out to Golden State wasn't a fluke, it was a sign of things to come.  Avery pushed for the Kidd trade.  It didn't work.  This team became older and slower.  It mortgaged the future for a first round playoff exit.  Avery finally got the point guard he always wanted, and then couldn't figure out how to use him.

I like the Jason Kidd-Dirk Nowitzki combo.  Those two should stay.  As for everyone else?  Noone's job is safe.  And that stars with the "Little General".

If you all knew half as much as Johnson why dont you appy for the job since you THINK you all know so much! Not one of you on here could do 1/2 of what he has done. People get mad at coaches for not being loyal to a team this is a great example of why that is true. 3 years is all he has had. They over achieved to even get to the finals 2 years ago. Remember people wanted Tom Landry fired after his 5th year. I bet the cowboys are glad he stayed. Get JACK in Sherman I bet he would do a great job. I bet JACK cant even walk and chew gum. Like I said no wander these coaches dont stay places long with the great support from their fans.

Avery is out. But props to him for cancelling practice and then sitting Josh Howard on the bench the final quarter after the stunt he pulled after game 4. Howard is a team cancer who needs to be shown the door with Avery. I think maybe Josh was not happy with the situation and did everything he could to sabotage this playoff run. Awful play, ill-timed comments and parties... that doesn't fly. Blame the coach... but don't let the players off the hook. Especially not Howard. I watched the Spurs game after the Mavs debacle and if Dallas played with half the determination and heart as the Spurs have... they would still be playing.

I am a big fan of Avery Johnson, even named my kids after him. I think he is a great Christian man with good morals and ethics. However, they don't give rings in the NBA for that. There is obviously a problem in the post season. We choked in Miami, we choked against Nelly, we looked like garbage this year. I think he has been outcoached in everyone of these situations. He needs to go, but who will replace him? I don't want D'Antoni if he gets fired. Maybe Mark will do it.
