Avery's gone, that didn't take long

Glad to see Mark Cuban reads this here blog.  Avery was fired less than 24 hours after I suggested it.  Now let's move on to the players that should go.  I would rid this team of all the old guys except Kidd.  I actually like the Dirk-Kidd combo.  But the Mavs should lose Jerry Stackhouse, Tyron Lue, Eddie Jones, Juwan Howard, and Jamaal Magloire.

I would look to trade Josh Howard, but I wouldn't give him away.  His value is at an all-time low right now obviously.  You might be able to get draft picks or someone else's headache in return (Carmelo Anthony?  Ron Artest?).  Or maybe convince Nellie to take him on in a deal with Golden State?

The only jobs that should be safe on this roster are:  Dirk Nowitzki, Jason Kidd, Brandon Bass, Jason Terry, and Erick Dampier.  Those guys are not a bad nucleus, but they need some major help.  This team needs a more reliable #2 scoriing option than Howard.

David: If, as you say, Jason Kidds job is safe for next year, don't expect the Mavs to be successful anytime soon. He wasn't a good fit for this franchise the first time around, and he isn't a good fit now. If at all possible he needs to be packaged in a trade for a pick or some youth. The Mavs would be blessed if someone would take on that ridiculous contract of his. The last thing the Mavs need is for Kidd to be their starter; nor do they need him a a disgruntled bench player. Those others you mention Stack, Lue etc, they should be gone too. The future is youth. There is a lot of it coming out. Get 'em signed and get 'em minutes.

jason terry does not fit in the mavericks system! he IS NOT a 2 guard! he is a fan favorite so you never here his name come up! We need a true SG who can guard. the only people on the bench i keep is bass an wright because they are young, get rid of the rest! i cant stand stackhouse or george, maybe charlotte will take stackhouse for some youth....the seem to like NC alum. 2 free agents the i like is pietrus from golden state and nachbar from nj........theres so many things that they can do an i dont believe they will be a true threat in the west for another 2 or 3 years but lets just hope they get lucky!

the mavs have about 73 million commited to next year's team. next year's cap is gonna be about 58 million i think. i'm assuming that they won't pick up the option on eddie jones so that leaves 6 players on the roster right now. they'll need to sign at minimum 6 others and they're already 1 million over. signed on their roster for next year and beyond are: kidd (21.3 mil, 1 year), dirk (59.2 mil, 3 years), howard (30 mil, 3 year), damp (32 mil, 3 years), terry (40.8, 4 years), mbenga is gone but is still owed 2 mil, bass (0.8 mil, 1 year). the good news is that kidd's contract is expiring next year, the bad news is that he's paid that 21 million and he's old. not tradable unless you get another untradable player. damp is not tradable either. neither is jason terry. dirk and howard certainly are tradable. i say that merely being a .500 team in the western conference means you have no shot. and that's what the mavs will be next year, or worse. trade dirk and howard. get draft
