Disappointing Draft for Mavs

I really thought the Mavs would try to move up and get a player late in the 1st round.  They didn't.  The Mavs decided to stand pat at #51, and they got a pretty good player.  Shan Foster was the SEC player of the year and scored 20 ppg his senior year.  If you average 20 points in the SEC, you can play.  I was a little disappointed to see Chris Douglas-Roberts and Darrell Arthur slide without the Mavs making a move.  Either could have helped this team.  Donnie says the price was too high.  Too high for Mark Cuban?  Please.

Don't bash the Mavs for not moving up. If you want to blame the poor draft on something, blame it on the Kidd trade. It was a mistake. Trading another player to move up would have only made that mistake worse. The Mavs mortgaged their future for a 35 year old. Grin and bear the aftershocks.

Posted by: lonhornfan jeff, how is cuban turning into tom hicks? do you mean the phase where he spent boat loads of money on free agents like a-rod and chan ho park? or when he decided that it actually makes more sense to lose games with a low paid team than with a high paid one? it ain't the 2nd one because cuban is spending big bucks on the mavs. have you seen the salary cap room they got? that goodness for the mid level exception and the rookie exception or else the team would pretty much have to fill the 3 or 4 holes in their roster completely with undrafted rookies and guys playing at league minimum. unless the mavs would have moved up to the top 4 or 5 picks, there's not really a rookie out there that would really help the team. the mavs are screwed for the next couple years. how many 30 plus year olds to they have signed for 2 plus years at over 10 million? they are looking like the knicks of a few years ago.

Longhorn fan, they could have bought a pick by making a $3 million dollar offer for someone not wanting to take on a guaranteed 1st round salary. That happened with the Hornets selling theirs. But Cuban is turning into Tom Hicks, so they didn't do it.

Posted by: longhornfan how would they have moved up? the only guys they got that they can trade are brandon bass and josh howard.

Yep, the Mavs blew it. They should have jumped through hoops to get up and get Brandon Rush or Eric Gordon. This team badly needs a real 2 guard.
