Hamilton is the best player in the American League

I raised a few eyebrows when I said it on the air the other night, but it's true.  Josh Hamilton is the best player in the American League.  He may be the best player in all of baseball.  I know he went through a bit of a slump, but he's back.  A walk-off home run against the division rival Angels last week was just the trick.  Anyone that saw the performance he put on in New York at the home run derby would be hard pressed to argue.  This guy is a star.  He won over the New York crowd in less than an hour.  Some guys spend a career there without having their name chanted.  You can have A-Rod, Ortiz, Ramirez, Jeter, etc.  I'll take Hamilton.

What differnce does it make? The Rangers are still 10-11 games out. Keep him, trade him, no post season. Again.

I agree Mr. Reed! Now let's just hope the Rangers can keep him. But they'll probably trade him for 7 players who will spend thier entire careers in Frisco or OKC as "farm club talent that should be ready in 5- 20 seasons"...lol

Kinsler is the best player on the team. There is more to it than just the HR & the RBI. People are quick 2 point out the number of errors that Kinsler makes, but fail to realize that he has the most range of any 2B in the AL. he makes plays that others can't. But since baseball is a stats game, particularly offense, put some numbers up... batting average, kinsler wins .337 to .310. on base percentage, kinsler wins .397 to .367 slugging percentage, hamilton wins .552 to .548 (that's .004 pts) xtra base hits, kinsler wins 52 to 46 strikeouts, kinsler wins 55 to 65 home runs, hamilton wins 21 to 14 runs, kinsler wins 84 to 60 runs batted in, hamilton wins 95 to 58 stolen bases, kinsler wins 23 to 7 and the best telling statistic on who the better hitter is is OPS . kinsler wins 152 to 144 bradley beats both with 180 kinsler has better plate discipline too. not only are his strikeouts fewer by 10, but they both have the same amount of walks to go along w/ kinsler's higher avg.

Jeremy, he may or may not be the 2nd best player on the Rangers? What league have you been watching? I love Kinsler, but there's no doubt that Hamilton has the star power. You should stop watching the Drillers in Tulsa and check out a Rangers game sometime!

I agree - he's the best. The Home Run Derby gave me chills! Just knowing where this guy come from and the obstacles he's overcome -- he's a winner regardless of whether he ever wins another game. But win, he will!

ian kinsler is the best player on the rangers. how could hamilton be the best player in the league? he may or may not be the 2nd best player on the team. milton bradley has a strong argument. he put on a great show in the derby, but it's batting practice. that shouldn't change anybody's mind. he is a great player, but don't overlook kinsler. and i don't want jeter. he's awful. has been for like 3 years now.

Hittin' the nail on the head, D-Reed. The guy has an aura about him that can't be put into words. He's one one those rare guys you really want to go see in person just to say you saw him play. He's the Real Life Roy Hobbs, son! (That's The Natural btw)

I couldn't agree more. Hamilton has won me over. I wouldn't trade him for any positional player in baseball.
