No, they didn't
I wasn't going to do this, but it's only fair that someone get online here at KXII and tell the truth. Yes, I am a Texas alum, and I'm also a subscriber to the theory of Common Sense.
Disclaimer: Texas fans have every right to be mad- and you're about to hear from one of them.
Here are some things to chew on:
1. Yes, OU has scored 60 points in four straight games. Well, the reason they had to is because their defense, um, is less than stellar. OU gave 41 points on Saturday night. What "national championship" defense gives up 41 to the fourth-best offense in their division?
And even when OU doesn't have to score 60, they do it anyway. Mack Brown doesn't run up the score (even though he could easily do the same) because he has CLASS and wants to teach his kids SPORTSMANSHIP.
Two words that are rarely applicable when discussing Bob Stoops or Oklahoma.
2. Yeah, OU had "quality wins" against TCU and Cincinnati. TCU's a nice little team that plays in a non-BCS conference. Much like Rice and UTEP, both of whom Texas played this season. Cincy was unranked when OU played them. They just emerged as the most mediocre team in an extremely weak Big East.
But Texas scheduled Arkansas years ago under the assumption that Felix Jones and Darren McFadden would be seniors this year. They went pro, and now Texas is deducted for not scheduling a quality opponent.
3. Um, when the two teams being considered are taken into account, ONE BEAT THE OTHER. If you want to scream about Tech beating Texas, forget it. Tech dropped out of contention when they were embarrassed in Norman on national TV. If Tech had to come to Austin, UT would have won the game. Don't believe it? Look at the track record. Tech only wins at night in Lubbock in big games. Ask OU about that.
And if the Big XII didn’t have its collective head up its rear and had the same tiebreakers the SEC and ACC have, Texas would go to the conference title game. Big XII commissioner Dan Beebe came out yesterday and said that they “will re-examine the tiebreakers.” Does that sound like a guy comfortable with the outcome?
I fully expect OU to whip up on Mizzou, and expect whoever wins the SEC to dominate them in the national title game.
And I'll enjoy it.
