MLB All-Star process needs some work

There is no question Major League Baseball has arguably one of the best All-Star breaks of all the major sports. Having said that, it needs some major work.

For one, a big decision has to be made. Do league officials want the All-Star Game to decide which league gets home field advantage in the World Series or do they want it to be a pure exhibition of baseball's biggest names? Because one can't go with the other and that's exactly how it is right now.

If you want it to decide home field advantage (which I think is ridiculous) then you can't let fans vote for the players AND you can't have one player from every team. The managers coaching the game should decide. I love the cheering masses, in fact, I'm one of them. But let's be honest, we don't know what we're talking about, at least not enough to be factor into which league will ultimately gets home field advantage in the biggest series of the year. Understandably so, fans want to see their favorite players in the game, but when so much is on the line, a popularity contest shouldn't be the way its decided.

Combine straight ballot voting with each team needing a representative and you have a mixture of players that shouldn't belong there and have no invested interest in the game. Tell me, will a player from the Washington Nationals or Oakland Athletics really care whether they win or lose. Wouldn't you rather see a player just as good from a contender who is actually helping his team do something during the season, play in the game?

Now, if you want this thing to be an exhibition, well then everything I have just said is moot and they should keep it the way it is, without it counting for home field advantage in the World Series.

How do you think the All-Star Game rosters and format should be set up? Let us know!
