It’s that time of year again. The Cowboys are in training camp, and that means almost all sports fans’ attention has turned the way of the pigskin.
Maybe it’s the Cowboys, and the soap opera life of quarterback Tony Romo, who still hasn’t won a playoff game, by the way.
Perhaps you’re a big college football fan and you’re already salivating for that October Clash of the Titans in Dallas when UT plays OU.
Or most likely, you’re all about your hometown team and Friday Night Lights. We all know that Texoma is High School Football Country.
Who am I kidding? We’re all obsessed with football, no matter who’s playing.

But there are things happening in Arlington besides all the hubbub at Jerry’s place. Defense is being played. Pitching is good. There are more wins and fewer losses than we’ve seen in a while at the Ballpark. For the first time in a decade, the Rangers are legitimate playoff contenders.
They just finished off the Los Angeles Angels (again) and moved to within 3.5 games of the AL West leaders. They’re tied with the mighty Boston Red Sox for the AL Wild Card right now.
Now we Texans and Oklahomans are and will forever be football fans first. But I wonder how many of y’all will continue to keep an eye out- and keep hope alive- that our beloved baseball team will finally emerge and clinch a postseason birth?
