As our British accents are nearing perfection (kind of) we went to see our first Olympic events today. We were able to watch two soccer matches at the Coventry Stadium, the first of which was Japan, the Women's World Cup champions versus Sweden. The game was incredible and the talent was amazing, so we are all very thankful to have the opportunity to watch these women up close and personal. We were joined by the Japanese and Swedish fans, alike, and partook in chants that even we didn't understand. It was amazing being able not to speak the same language as our neighbors, but being able to enjoy the beautiful game of football with fourteen thousand other fans from all over the world. The second match consisted of our neighbors from across the border (the Canadian one) versus South Africa, who was making their first Olympic experience this year. The game was not as technically exciting as the first, but the atmosphere of the stadium was just as intense as before. After the games, we came back and enjoyed dinner together at the pub next to our hotel, where we are able to watch more Olympic events such as swimming and gymnastics. Tomorrow the Lady Roos will take on the Peterborough Ladies in their second international match at 12pm sharp. Keep reading and we'll keep posting. Goodnight, America.
Yours truly,
Your (favorite) Americans from across the pond,
Em & Em
