Josh Hamilton has been outstanding for the Rangers. When he is at his best, he is as good as anyone in baseball. That is why it will be difficult to watch him go, but the Rangers need to.
Hamilton is going to get a monster deal. Someone will offer him a long term, multi-million dollar deal, possibly in the 8-year $160 million range. Not only will the Rangers pass on such an offer, they have to pass on it.
Hamilton has been great. And he may have some really good years left. But the injuries are piling up. The vision goes blurry. He disappears for weeks. So which Josh are you getting for such a deal? Good Josh? or Bad Josh?
I love the guy. Love his story. Love what he's done for the Rangers. But if the Rangers are to think about the big picture, that money can be better spent elsewhere.
We will never forget what Hamilton has done in Texas. The Rangers probably would not have made it to back to back World Series without him. But it is time to move on.
