If you're reading this, you're probably familiar with the term "March Madness". For those of you who aren't, I'm talking about the NCAA tournament, set to kick off in just under two weeks, which will pit the nations 68 best teams against one another.
It's a wonderful time for college basketball fans, and this year should be even better. In terms of parity, this has been a season full of it. The number one team has been knocked off multiple times, and as it stands, the Gonzaga Bulldogs, out of the the un-heralded West Coast Conference, currently hold the number one spot.
In terms of Texoma, there's at least one team who I believe could make a lot of noise, and that is the Oklahoma State Cowboys. The Cowboys have three dynamic-NBA type players on their roster, point guard Marcus Smart and forwards Markel Brown and LeBryan Nash. If all those players are on at once, the Pokes could beat any team in the nation.
There's also the Oklahoma Sooners, who after a dismal last couple of years, have really turned it around behind strong years from Steven Pledger and Romero Osby, and some masterful coaching by Lon Kruger. I don't know if they have the staying power of the Cowboys, but they could get a couple rounds deep.
In terms of the Big 12, Kansas is always a threat to make a run deep into the tournament, and Iowa State is a virtual lock to at least get in. And this year, if you make it in, there's no telling how far you can go. You can't sleep on Kansas State either, a team that's been hanging around the top 15 all year.
So whether or not you're a die-hard NCAA or just as casual on-looker, I encourage you to pay extra close attention come selection Sunday on through the second weekend in April, I don't think you'll be disappointed.
