Power, Relevance and Championships.
That's what teams believe they will get with All-Star center Dwight Howard. The biggest prize in free agency is looking for a max deal. The Dallas Mavericks, and Houston Rockets appear to be the front runners to capture the big man, but the Los Angeles Lakers, Atlanta Hawks and Golden State Warriors all remain in the mix.
Multiple Sources are saying Dwight will probably make his final decision by Friday. So by then all these teams will (theoretically) know whether they need to keep on looking, or whether they have their rock down low.
If you ask me, which no one is, I believe the Rockets have the best chance. I think their combination of youth, a coach who was an NBA great in Kevin McHale and fan base hungry for basketball success after a decade and a half of mediocrity.
If the Rockets are team #1, the Mavs are team 1A. They aren't quite as young or as ready to compete as the Rockets are. However, Dallas boasts a owner who definitely cares about his franchise, and Iconic superstar in Dirk Nowitzki, and a ton of cap room in the upcoming summer.
The other three I believe are also-rans in the competition, although it's been reported that Golden State made quite the impression in their meeting with Howard. They would have to do a sign and trade with LA to get him, so that's an extra hurdle. But no matter what anyone says, NO ONE, probably not even Dwight, knows where he's going yet. Anyone who tells you differently, is probably lying.
So now, we'll just have to wait and see.
