Heat Effects Worsen Over Weekend

Thu 5 August 2010 / 4:20p.m.

A weak frontal zone is bringing scattered relief in the form of summer thunderstorms to some Texomans. The front will linger in the area Friday-Saturday and will provide a focal point for a few more storms through Friday night.

After that, it’s back to the heat: Heat Advisories are posted for all of Texoma through the weekend.

Surface flow will be more southerly into next week as opposed to SW; this along with the high aloft will make it even more uncomfortable with Heat Index values of 107-112 each afternoon.

It’s likely to remain very hot perhaps into the middle of the week, although actual daytime highs should sneak to just under 100 by then.

Take Care,

It may seem that it doesn't cool off much until the end of September because we get a hot Sep. now and then...but in reality, the average high temeprature (and lows too)drop about 10 degrees between early August and the end of Sep. Bring on the football weather!...Steve

Sounds like I might not have to cut any more firewood this week.

The temps usually don't start to go down till the end of September. Even then we may still have some really hot days. I bet this heat wave stays till we get some help from the tropics.

Bill, I feel your pain; this heat wave is getting way OLD! As for your question, yes, the 30-year AVERAGE temperatures do begin to fall by mid August, but there are many examples where this didn't happen such as the year 2000, 2006, and 2007. At this point, there's no indication of a major pattern change during the next week. Hang in there! Steve

How much longer is this heat going to last? Shouldn't the highs start creeping back down as we progress into latter part of August?
