Texoma saw a nice break from the heat during the last week of August 2010 (except for the 31st, which was very hot and humid).
However, the intense daily temperature during the period August 1-23 places us in the August records at #4 for overall heat. This is above August 2006 for the daily average temperature. If you were around here four years ago, you know that was a brutal month!
August 2006 had an average temperature of 87.0 degrees.
August 2010 had an average temperature of 87.9 degrees.
The August 2010 daily average temperature (measured at Sherman), is exceeded only by 1951, 1952, and 2000. Below are the hottest temperatures in August 2010 by city:

The good news: it looks like we’re done with severe heat waves for this year. We’ll certainly have a few more weeks of occasional hot weather into the 90s, but widespread 100+ readings are unlikely given the evolving pattern.
An upper low passing to our north and building surface pressures in southern Canada should push another mild and dry air mass in by the weekend. Labor Day itself will probably be the most humid of the three day weekend as wind returns to the south.
