Steve's National Travel Outlook

November 20, 2007

Travel records indicate that more people fly or drive somewhere during the Thanksgiving Holiday than at any other time of the year. I have posted my weather outlook nationwide for Wednesday in case you’re headed out of Texoma (see map).

The weather looks mostly sunny across the western U.S. with cold temperatures for Washington and Oregon, to mild in central and southern California.

The middle of the country will be sunny but quite cold in the wake of the polar cold front. Highs will be in the 30s, and overnight lows will be well below freezing; so you should take a thick coat if headed to Chicago, Omaha, Minneapolis, or Kansas City.  Rain in Chicago may slow down the big O'Hare airport traffic, but thunderstorms are not expected.

It will be cold and snowy in Denver with temperatures below freezing even during the day. Brrr!  Several inches of snow are expected. This snow could slow things down at the Denver Airport.

Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Missouri will be windy and much cooler as the front continues southward. Rain will shift eastward during the day. Thunderstorms are possible over eastern Texas from Houston to Tyler.

Travel challenges will be greatest in the mid-south and east. Snow is possible from eastern Michigan to upstate New York…while a cold rain is expected from the “Big Apple” to Boston and southward along the cold front, into the eastern and southern states. Strong thunderstorms may delay flights to/from Little Rock, Atlanta, Birmingham, Memphis, Nashville or New Orleans. High winds may cause some delays at D/FW Wednesday as well.

Closer to home, expect, a rainy, cold Saturday and Sunday to round out your Holiday weekend here in Texoma.

I hope that you have a wonderful Holiday…and that you can still fit into your clothes when it’s all over!

 Take Care,
