Pattern Change...Colder Air Comin'

January 11, 2008

It’s been a week of seasonably cold nights with above average daytime highs. This pattern should continue through early next week.

Changes are on the horizon, though. All computer models are pointing to a surge of arctic air arriving by January 16th. The map at the left shows the expected

18,000’ wind pattern for Wednesday. This particular level is the one that tends to be the most reliable indicator of the  “steering” for large storm systems and cold air masses.

Temperatures are expected to tumble behind the front. I’m not predicting extremely cold overnight lows due some cloud cover. Fewer clouds would bring lows down into the teens; a more robust system might set us up for some ice or snow the middle of next week. Either way, daytime highs should be about as chilly as the cold snap just before Christmas.  Brrr!

We’ve got some time to watch this…but bottom line…enjoy the mild days, as much colder readings are expected with this pattern change.

 Take Care….

I've known the north Texas/Southern Oklahoma area all my life. I am surprised we have not had any ice or snow considering all the frozen preceiptation they had north of here. I remember back in october of 2007, they were predicting a mild/warm winter. that was not the case. burrrrrrrr. lol

I think I must live in the wrong area. I love the snow and cold weather and I hate the heat. I just wish we would see more snow here since I have no plans to move out of the area.
