"La Nina" Winter Update!

January 18, 2008

I have noticed a few comments posted underneath my weather blogs (thanks as always for comments, even if they're negative, as long as they’re constructive!), about LaNina not bringing the “warm winter” promised.

Well, let’s talk about this. The prediction was for a warmer winter THAN AVERAGE, and a drier one THAN AVERAGE.

December 2007 was 50% drier than the 30-year average, while temperatures were very close to average. January, thus far, has yielded almost no rain. It may surprise you to know, up through the date of this writing, January is running 3-5 degrees ABOVE normal across Texoma.

Even though there have been a few cold days, the days of “above normal” temperatures have outnumbered “below normal” in January three to one.

I’ll be the first to admit that I’m going to miss one every now and then…but so far this winter is pretty much as expected: dry, with above average temperatures.

It will be colder than average for the next few days…so stay warm!

I used to live in Southern OK, living in Cedar Rapids, IA, now... we had -30 wind chills here last weekend, and we have had more days with temps below 0 than we have above. So... for anyone that wants to complain about the cold... you have NOTHING to complain about... be grateful. LOL!
