Winter Weather Potential: This Weekend

A recent blog question to me was, “is it too late to get any snow this winter?” If we look at weather records for Texoma, we see that there’s still at least a month of snow season left.

Snow can fall and accumulate well into March; in fact:

 6.5” fell on March 1, 1942,

 5” fell on March 15, 1947,

Even as late as March 29, the record snowfall is 6 inches for the date

(These records are for Ardmore ).

A surge of cold air with over-running moisture is expected later this week.

Some computer models point to an upper low creating a strong over-running pattern after the cold front moves by; this could set the stage for wintry precipitation in some parts of Texoma. Of course, it could wind up being just a cold rain…but it bears watching.

The time frame for this to happen is Friday or Saturday…so as always we’ll hide and watch.

Take Care,
