Severe Again?

April 1, 2008

Another severe storm scenario, quite similar to the March 31 episode, is brewing for April 3-4.  A warm front will pass north of Texoma by Thursday morning, with a surface cold front and upper trough approaching Thursday afternoon/evening.

This puts us in the unstable warm sector of the storm. There will also be fairly high wind shear (change of wind speed/direction with height) which increases the risk for tornadoes.

The surface cold front should pass through by Friday morning. A notable difference may be the location of the surface low: a bit further south than in Monday’s event. This would tend to increase low-level wind shear, enhancing storm updrafts and the tornado potential.

At this point the weekend ahead looks very pleasant with cool mornings and mild afternoons.

 Take Care,
