Northwesterly Flow: Rainmaking Potential Through Saturday

weather map

June16, 2008: UPDATE

Increased cloudiness and occasional showers/storms should keep highs in the 80s the next few days. The upper ridge which brought the hottest weather of the year Sunday has shifted westward. The clockwise circulation around the high will provide steering winds from the northwest.

Meanwhile, southerly surface winds are lifted by  higher terrain to our northwest. Thunderstorms will tend to form over these areas and then move southeast with the steering winds.

The first cold front will dissipate by Wednesday night; a second front may approach Friday. These fronts will serve to focus additional storm development.

Overall, a rather unsettled pattern this week.

Take Care,

Steve LaNore

Chief Meteorologist
