Rainy Through Mid-Week

August 18, 2008

The upper level low was a little slow getting our rain started last weekend, but now looks to hang around for the next day or two with occasional soaking rainfall over Texoma. Total rainfall amounts will vary widely, but 2-3” totals have already been recorded over western portions of the viewing area as of noon Monday, and more is expected on and off through Wednesday. A gradual drying trend should take place as the upper low slowly moves eastward by Thursday.

More good news: the recent rainfall episode of last week as well as this current wet pattern means that it’s unlikely we’ll see any 100+ temperatures during the rest of August. The high soil moisture and greening vegetation act as buffers to temper afternoon highs.  No doubt there are several weeks of 90+ weather ahead, but as summer winds down I am confident in saying we will not have a repeat of the heat wave we experienced from July 22 to August 5.
