August 18-21: Rainfall Roundup

 August 21, 2008

Soil moisture has recovered nicely (in most areas)  thanks to four days of on and off rainfall across southern Oklahoma and north Texas . A few exceptions are Lamar and Choctaw Counties where amounts were less than a half inch.

On the flipside, much of western Jefferson County was doused with 5-10”of rain.  These extremes illustrate the near impossibility of predicting the rainfall amounts for one location, while the overall forecast of locally heavy rain was largely a success.

Here’s a partial list of rainfall amounts for the period August 18-21, in alphabetical order:

 Ada                               1.49”

 Antlers                           .93”

 Ardmore                       1.56”

 Atoka                          2.00”

 Bonham                       1.22”

 Coalgate                      1.95”

 Davis                             .87”

 Gainesville                    2.78”

 Hugo                             .25”

 Madill                          1.15”

 Paris                               .47”

 Sherman/Denison         1.43”

 Tishomingo                  1.16”

 Waurika                      9.72”

I can't speak for the rest of the city but we live on the east side of town and received 4.7 inches of rain over this period.
