Summery This Week, Change By Sunday?

September 22, 2008

Even though we’re into fall now, a “last gasp” of summer will be the rule this week.

A warm southerly flow and upper level ridging make for a warm and humid combination, and that’s what we’ll get. The jet stream continues to carry cold fronts eastward and not in a southerly direction.

This may change by late this weekend with a shift to a more pronounced “north to south” upper level wind flow pattern (see map above).  This would allow the end of September to end on a much cooler note. Two of the three computer models are pointing to this right now, but it’s still rather far away in time. I have moderate confidence that it will happen.

In the meantime, A/C or a good fan will surely come in handy.

Take Care,
