Fall: Running Cool and Very Dry

October 12, 2008: A Cool and Dry Fall…So Far (image courtesy NOAA)

September and the first half of October have been woefully dry once again…and quite cool. September 2008 was the 10th coolest on record for Texas and the 11th coolest in the books for Oklahoma . This data spans more than a hundred years worth.

Meanwhile, rainfall has been very skimpy since the middle of September with locations in the eastern half of Texoma getting less than one inch during the period while the western half has fared slightly better with one to one and a half inches. you can read  my previous post about our dry September at:

We suffered through very dry autumns in 2006 and 2007…I see no indication that the pattern will change in a big way very soon, although we'll get some precip. this week. The rainfall with this week’s front will probably average under an inch with the lack of upper support; we can always hope that I am wrong!

Ardmore, Don’t believe the Almanac. If it's right it's a lucky guess and not based on science. Anybody can make a wild guess and be right once in a while, but this is a poor way to make any kind of prediction. While I will not post my winter outlook until November 14, I'm leaning towards cool to cold and dry. Watch for my "official" Winter Outlook blog to be posted on 14 November! Take Care, Steve

I wish it would rain. However I have to say I love this mild weather. Great for outdoor activities.
