First Freeze Discussion: Updated 24 October 2008

UPDATE:

Frost/freeze possibilities will occur October  25, and 28th. So far, Antlers and Tishomingo have had a freeze from among the listed locations, but a few other normal "cold spots" such as Davis, Sulphur and Marietta also had a light freezes on the 23rd and 24th. Growing season is winding down for 2008!

A scan of available weather records show the following earliest dates for a first freeze:

Ada …………………..October 7

Antlers……………....October 8       (First freeze this season October 23, 2008)

Ardmore …………….October 19

Durant……………….October 9

Hugo……………….…October 9

Sherman-Denison……October 12

Tishomingo……….…..October 8       (First freeze this season October 24, 2008)

The average dates of first freeze range from October 25 in the coldest valleys of southern Oklahoma to November 13 for Paris, so we're just a bit ahead of schedule with the freezes this season.

Steve LaNore

Thanks for the updates Steve. Each year I watch for the first freeze and then start looking for the pecans to start falling. You know the holidays are right around the corner then! How does the 2008-2009 winter look to be shaping up for the Atoka and surrounding areas this year?
