The first area-wide freeze of the 2008/09 winter season arrived Tuesday 28 October thanks to arctic high pressure which had settled in. Overnight lows were either new records for the date….or very close:
City Old record/year Low of 28 October
Antlers 29/1993 21 **NEW RECORD**
Durant 26/1957 28
Hugo 28/157 30
Madill 28/1957 27 **NEW RECORD**
Tishomingo 25/1914 25 **TIED RECORD**
So, it’s safe to say that most of Texoma experienced a killing freeze on the morning of 28 October, ending the growing season for this year. The next potential cold blast is showing up in the long-range models in about 10 days. In the meantime, milder weather is expected to accompany November’s arrival.
