Dry and Warm

Dry and Warm
Monday 16 March 2009

An outdoor-friendly spring pattern will dominate through mid-week.

During the arctic cold last week, we had a vigorous jet stream and southwesterly wind flow causing lots of over-running from the Pacific side, while southerly winds kept plenty of Gulf moisture gliding over the cold air too.

This week we find a west-to-east flow and not much Gulf moisture around. The upper level “waves” that brought unstable conditions (rain and thunderstorms) are also absent.

All of this points to warm and dry weather. The next change to watch is a front moving in sometime Thursday. Without a lot of upper support this go-round, rainfall with this boundary is likely to be limited. Enjoy the sunshine!
