Heavy rain potential May 2-3

After incredible rainfall over the Lake Texoma watershed Wednesday, another heavy rain scenario is taking shape for the weekend.

Here are the elements:

1) Steering winds will press a cold front to about the Red River, where it will encounter weaker winds aloft and likely stall out Saturday and Sunday.

2) An upper trough will move over the frontal zone providing additional lift.

3) Southerly breezes will move air with very high precipitable water (moisture available for rainfall) through our area.

In many respects, it will be similar pattern to the April 29/30 flood event. We’ll be watching it closely for you in the days to come.

Take Care,
Steve LaNore
Chief Meteorologist
