Locally Heavy Rain This Weekend

22 May 2009

Low pressure in the northern Gulf has brought increasing moisture to Texoma.
The low is expected to move slowly northwest: this is not good news for your Holiday weekend weather. Since the track of the low will most likely take it through western Arkansas, the eastern half of Texoma stands to get the most rain.
However, weak waves of low pressure associated with a trough over northern Mexico will also influence our weather over the weekend. All areas are therefore subject to pockets of heavy rain through Monday.
Plentiful moisture, areas of low pressure, and virtually no “cap” means a fairly unstable atmosphere with showers and thunderstorms likely each day through the middle of next week. The most concentrated rainfall is likely Saturday and Sunday as the Gulf low moves closer.
A word of caution: if you’re outside this weekend and a thunderstorm moves in, seek shelter indoors immediately. Never hide under trees, near metallic objects, or on a hill. Get off of the lake if you see a storm approaching.
