Summer 2009 has been somewhat out of the ordinary because so many fronts have managed to get this far south.
The steering winds pattern which drives these fronts our way is one featuring northwesterly flow.
And, this weather picture is coming into focus again with a fairly vigorous front (for August) moving southward later this week. Showers and thunderstorms are quite likely along the frontal boundary.
A deep upper trough will help to cause high pressure to send more fairly cool our way to round out August. In fact, some of the computer models are placing lows in the 55-60 degree range by early next week.
While I’m not ready to “bite” to that extent, the overall pattern is consistent with below normal temperatures for several days once the front moves by. So it seems the heat of this week won’t hang around long.
