January is turning out to be one of those weird weather months. After the most intense cold spell in more than 10 years, we’re facing spring-like warmth for the period Jan 18-22.

The deep eastern trough which brought the bitterly cold air into Texoma is gone, and has been replaced with a west to east steering wind pattern (maps below).

This scenario will be filled with little waves riding along in the jet stream; each one will bring a chance of thunderstorms through the week.

Take Care,

Previous pattern which brought near-record cold to Oklahoma and Texas was much more amplified (north to south).

Pattern expected for Jan 18-22 features fast-moving short waves and mild air / GFS model

The average last freeze date in Ardmore is mid to late March...given the pattern developing through early February we have plenty of cold weather ahead so hang in there!
