One Last Shot Of Rain: Heat is Coming

Upper trough (dashed blue line) passes to east by Tuesday afternoon. Downward motion in its wake ends chance of precipitation.

UPDATE: Mon 12 July 2010 / 11:30a.m.

A passing upper trough brings showers/thunderstorms through Tuesday; a few my be marginally severe this evening. After that, the subtropical high builds overhead, and that will amp up the temperatures into the mid and upper 90s. Looks like typical mid-summer heat will return after a nice break this past week.

UPDATE: Friday 9 July 2010 / 10:30p.m.

Scattered thunderstorms are expected Saturday, but the front should dissipate and the upper high should be strong enough to keep rain to very isolated status on Sunday.

This blog is intended as a fresh update on the previous heavy rain post which began on Monday.

The heavy rain event will wind down during the day Saturday as an upper ridge begins to suppress lifting in the atmosphere.

The air mass will remain extremely humid. Weekend heat index values will run 102-108 in the afternoons. Ugh!

The upper level portion of Tropical Depression #2 (which made landfall near Brownsville Thursday morning) may circulate around the ridge and bring a chance of rain by early next week. A front moving southward about this same time suggests another potential for significant rainfall.

The map above details expected rainfall through Sunday morning; I think these amounts are a little on the low side given the amount of rain which has fallen just today in the bullseye area. Most of the rain threat should end by Saturday evening in any case.

Please NEVER drive into flooded areas or water of unknown depth, and have a great weekend!

Take Care,
