Arctic air for sure...and maybe a little snow

UPDATE: Friday 7 Jan 2011 / 9p.m.

There could be some snow Sunday as well as Monday if the low-level air mass cools enough underneath an approaching mid-level trough. Amounts are still in question, but some accumulating snow is possible.

Be sure to watch Megan Krannig throughout the weekend for the very latest on this winter weather situation.

The models and today's weather analysis offer little reason to change my thinking: cold rain with the 1st trough Sunday, arctic frontal passage Sunday night or Monday morning, and then a second trough passing to our north Monday with a chance of snow.

As the steering winds map shows below, the 2nd trough's lifting will be stronger to our north, so unless this changes I'm expecting amounts of an inch...or less.

Windy and very cold weather is of high likelihood next week. Get your pipes, plants, pets and vehicles ready now for the big freeze!

Tomorrow's update may be posted later in the evening. Be sure and join Megan Krannig for the latest updates Friday at 5,6 and 10....-:)

Take Care,

Steve LaNore
