2011 sets new record with most 100-degree days of any year

*****UPDATE: Texoma exceeds all-time record for the number of 100+ days in a calendar year. These are not consecutive days, but the total number.

The 57th 100-plus-degree day of 2011 took place on Friday, August 26th, exceeding the 1956 record of 56 days.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

FINAL TALLY: 66 days with last the 100 for year recorded on September 29, 2011

============================================

It seems only fitting for the summer of 2011, the hottest on record, to have the most 100-degree days for any year as well.

The old record (using Sherman records) for the most 100-degree days was 56 recorded in the year 1956. Its just one more record put to bed in this most awful summer.

Other records broken this summer in Texoma:

>>>Hottest August on record.

>>>Hottest July on record.

>>>2nd hottest June on record.

>>>Hottest Lake Texoma temperature on record at 91 degrees, August 5-7, 2011

>>>21 consecutive 100-degree-or-higher days at Sherman: all-time record (Sherman had a one-day break on July 20th when the high hit only 99…otherwise Sherman’s streak would have also been about 40 days)
>>>41 consecutive 100+ days at Ardmore: all-time record
>>>43 consecutive 100+ days at Ada: all-time record
>>>44 consecutive 100+ days at Durant: all-time record
Notable August 3 records:
Ardmore high temperature of 111 three degrees short of all-time record for the city, and hottest since 1936
Sherman high temperature of 111 two degrees short of all-time record for the city, and hottest since 1936
Antlers high of 112 hottest since 1943
Durant high of 111 hottest since 1956
Tishomingo high of 112 hottest since 1936
Add to this almost no rain for much of the area since June 1, and where it has rained amounts have been less than 25% of normal for the summer at best.
Needless to say it’s been a summer that we will scarce forget in our lifetime.

Looks like 65 days will be the final tally...........one to remember (or rather forget).

This year has given us one of the most servre weather in my lifetime and acording to my parents and their parents. We got a week of ice, a very bad storm season and one of the worst summers seen on record. Normaly we only just get one of the three bad but it's strange that we got all three.

There's a reason sciencetist worldwide have been saying consistantly climate change is serious.

I think you misunderstood my use of irony. People will be jumping up and down to have their outdoor kitchens working for the last big cookout weekend of the year. And we thought, watch it rain all weekend. Sorry for the confusion.

Steve, I am keeping up with the Sherman (Texoma) total 100 record with interest......but am curious about Ardmore. Isn't Admore ahead of "Texoma" this summer in this category?

How is the potential for plain luck from a wild guess ironic?...neither is it science. Plus how do you know you will be right? So let's just hide and watch. We have 30% rain for Sat-Sun right now. The odds would increase if a tropical low moves in...which is too far out to predict. Take Care, Steve

May it be the biggest republican state being punished because or the abolish the anti enviromental views. Such as Perry and abolish the EPA.

At work, we deal with swimming pools and outdoor kitchens. We will be busy getting everyone's outdoor stuff ready for this next weekend and have predicted before the weather people did that it will rain all Labor Day Weekend. I call it the irony factor.

Wow! I survived the summer of 1980 and NOW the summer of 2011. Funny how the summer of 1980 didn't seem as bad.....but then again...I was only 18 years old in 1980! Just sad that right before Labor Day weekend that the lake goes sour. :(

David, The average highs for the Labor Day weekend period are highs around 90 and lows around 70. Take Care-Steve

Thanks Steve.....Just goes to show how entrenched and brutal this heat wave really is.
