High Winds This Weekend

High winds are in the forecast for Saturday/Sunday: A deep low-pressure area is expected to wind up over Kansas this weekend. The tight pressure field around this strong low will make for winds which may exceed 50mph (in gusts) over many parts of Oklahoma and north Texas.

Since we’ll be on the southeastern side of the low, we'll have a warm south to southwesterly wind. If the wind veers enough to the southwest, we'd get cheated out of rain potential with low-level moisture pushed eastward.
However, there's a fair chance that won't happen.
The best chance for rain will be Sunday night/Monday morning as a mid-level trough and cold front pass by. Monday should be a much nicer day with winds easing Monday evening.
Extreme fire danger will be a problem through Sunday ahead of the front. Avoid using any open flames or sources of sparks outside.
Take Care,
Steve LaNore
Chief Meteorologist

Sunday morning and the winds are already kicking up. Bet there are a lot of nervous fire crews out there. Hang on.
