We’ll endure more frigid mornings as we move into the weekend, but change is in sight. Westerly winds will steadily erode the arctic air, pushing highs into the 50s Saturday and the 60s Sunday. Overnight lows should remain above freezing by early next week.
All of the extended forecast products point to a much milder weather pattern next week as the jet stream retreats northward, bottling cold air up over Canada. A ridge begins to build over the southwestern U.S. at the same time (discussion continues below map).
Even in February, this will be a warm pattern with highs and lows above average.
The down side: dry and windy conditions will lead to an increased wildfire threat as we move past Valentine’s Day.
