A Bad April Fool's Joke for Texoma?

It looks like the weather joke might be on Texoma as we will still face some risk of a freeze, or at least a frost, into the first days of April.

The set-up is somewhat of a repeat performance of the March 24-26 cold wave, although this one is expected to be less intense.

A large bubble of cold air over Canada is expected to get pushed southward on the western side of a deepening upper low, and descend into the southern Plains early next week (discussion continues below map):

Surface high pressure surges southward with another chilly air mass for Texoma. Easter Sunday 12pm positions.

The sun angle gets a little higher each day and the days are getting longer, so the good news is each cold air visit will be a little milder as we move into April.

The average last freeze dates for Texoma range from March 22 for Sherman to March 31 for Ada.

Below are some record last freeze dates which make it into May for some locations:

  • Ada…May 5, 1911    (32 degrees)
  • Ardmore…May 1, 1903   (32 degrees)
  • Antlers…May 1, 1960   (32 degrees)
  • Durant…April 22, 1931   (31 degrees)
