New science book combines laughter and learning...

I enjoy conducting school and other public weather talks because I get to share my love for science in an interactive and detailed way not possible through the "tube". It's a great feeling to see kids and adults alike excited about exploring our world, and developing an understanding of what science can...and can't do.

My passion for discovery is why I wrote an eBook “Weather Wits and Science Snickers” (WWSS). It’s a new eBook now available online at both Amazon and Barnes & Noble for $2.99.

The concept uses silly jokes to draw the reader in to some cool science. The book targets readers ages 8 and up, and I believe all science lovers will find it an easy yet interesting read. And yes, you might roll your eyes at some of the corny jokes too!

Each joke is accompanied by a color illustration. The drawings are the work of Sherman artist and Austin College alum Elizabeth Cox, and she did a superb job.  A short 2-4 paragraph “What’s Going On” section follows each joke to explain the science within the silliness.

There's dozens of Web links to bolster the teaching benefit and allow those interested to learn more, and some really neat real-world photos too. The links are “live” in eBooks, so you are taken to the website as soon as you click the link, but you don't lose your place in the eBook when you're ready to continue reading.

Amazon and Barnes & Noble both offer FREE e-readers so it’s no longer necessary to purchase a device to enjoy an e-book. Free apps for e-reading are available on both vendors' websites for PC, iPads, and you can get free smartphone apps from the iPhone or Android markets on your phone.

There are “look inside” samples available on the Amazon and B&N websites so you can see if it’s your cup of tea (or your child’s) before you buy. Of course, you will need to set up an account on the book vendor site of your choice, but that's pretty easy.

If you get a copy of "Weather Wits and Science Snickers", feel free to post a review on the Amazon or B&N site.

You can go directly to the WWSS information/ordering page by clicking on the vendor name of your choice:
