October 2011 saw several widespread rainfall events across Texoma, bringing us the heaviest rain totals since May. Topsoil moisture has improved in about ¾ of the area, but we’re still in a bad drought. Burn bans have been lifted for the time being (as of November 1) for the vast majority of our area due to the moister conditions.
The easternmost portions of Texoma (maps above) received the least rain, which is the reverse from usual. Several systems were blocked by high pressure as they moved in and this kept the heavier rainfall pattern further west.
The overall forecast remains dry for the winter of 2011-2012, but an active “wavy” pattern through mid-November offers several more prospects for rain.
