"Super cold surge" blog...another 10-day deal

We’ll have some really cold nights through Monday, with a moderating trend as we move into Tuesday and Wednesday.

But, we are in the dead of winter and there’s plenty of “future cold” to keep an eye on.

In fact, a 1056mb surface high is shown on the first forecast map (above)  is valid for Jan 9th. Such high pressures are usually associated with intense cold.

The 10-15 day model output has been advertising a cross-polar event unfolding between January 9th and 11th for several days. Cross-polar steering level flow (second map)  is often tied in with extremely cold Siberian air masses moving southward into Canada and the United States.

So once again we’re looking out 10 days, and it could be 70 degrees or 20 degrees by the time Jan 10th rolls around. However, a general agreement in the model output makes it worth a mention…especially for you long-shot lovers…

Stay warm…and may your first few days of 2011 be great ones!

Well Steve dont think that we are going to get snow or anything now the models change so much but one thing they are leaning towards is a very cold late next week,,some poeple are saying this could be a record breaking event with the artic air coming down on us late next week. I have seen some models show that we could be in the singles for highs and negatives for lows. I dont know what is going to happen but I can tell you it will be very cold next week and weekend.should be an eventfull week for you coming up,,lol
