Welcome rainfall visited Texoma on the morning of April 11. For some, it was the heaviest rainfall in many months. A great percentage of the area received at least half an inch of rain, with amounts ranging from an inch and a half to as low as nearly nothing.
The rainfall provides a small dent in the drought, but will do little to recharge low area lakes. The moisture provided by this rain event will provide a week or so with moist conditions in the upper layers of the soil, but several soaking rains within a few weeks would be needed to really put the drought on hold.
However, it’s certainly allowed a short-term improvement in those areas which received significant rainfall. Greening vegetation will dampen the fire danger a bit as well.
