Wind and Cold Return Dec 11th...

UPDATE: Fri 10 Dec 2010

No changes to previous forecast: front will pass through Texoma Saturday morning and leave us in a windy cold regime Saturday and Sunday. Coldest temperatures will range 14 to 23 Monday morning followed by a warming trend next week.

Expected frontal position, 6pm Sat 11 Dec 2010 / ECMWF model

Tue 7 Dec 2010 / 5:53 p.m.

Another interesting weather system rolls through this Saturday with plenty ‘o wind...and a plentiful supply of cold too.

More wintry temperatures are collecting over northern Canada, and this shot of arctic air will come tumbling southward Friday night and Saturday.
A mid-level trough and surface low pressure areas will help to tighten the pressure field and make it very windy behind the front. There won’t be a lot of moisture to work with (once again), but a little rain is possible as the trough aloft scoots by during the day Saturday. We’re talking windy 20s with wind chills in the single numbers Sunday morning and lows in the teens to low 20s Monday mornings. Brrr!
A reminder: If you leave town, don’t turn your heater off, just turn it down to a low reading like 55. This will help keep your pipes from freezing.

Rebecca, There's nothing on the charts that indicate any chance of snow next week. An arctic front and mid-level trough arrive Saturday with a small chance of rain...but snow is not indicated with that either. In fact, milder weather returns to the forecast by the middle of next week as westerly jet stream winds keep the colder air up in Canada. We're in a La Nina Winter so the overall snow odds are less than in a typical winter, but that doesn't mean we won't get one...As the say hope is cheap(if you want snow) and there's always a chance...Take Care, Steve

I heard several comments about expecting snow this week but I guess it's just not in the forecast. Can we expect very much snow in December or January this year?
