Well, I think it is safe to say that the drought is no longer here in Texoma.  Flooding rains April 29th/30th left behind full rain gauges and broke some daily and even monthly rainfall records.  Below, you can find rainfall totals (recorded from OK Mesonet and weather watchers) and locations that broke records.

For those of you with Lake Texoma interests...I spoke with the Army Corps of Engineers and no boat docks or campgrounds are closed at this time (11AM Friday).  Here are the latest Lake Texoma forecasted levels:

May 5th Level 625 feet
May 11th Level 626.9 feet

Burneyville not only broke their daily rainfall record for April 29th, but they also broke a record for the most amount of rainfall to fall in a single month.  The previous monthly record was set in June of 2004 when they recorded 12.01 inches of rain.

When the rain finally let up Thursday morning, I decided to take a stroll with my son.  We were both dealing with cabin fever after a whole day of rain and being stuck indoors.  I noticed the stock tank just up the street was full again.  It was dry just two days before.  So, the rains were certainly beneficial for stock tanks and putting a dent in the drought.

With the ground being so saturated, we really could use a few days to dry out a bit.  Unfortuneately, it looks like we might have another big rain event over the weekend.  Some models are showing 4 to 5 inches of rain could fall over parts of Texoma as another front stalls right over the Red River.  As a result, the National Weather Service has issued a Flash Flood Watch through Sunday evening.

Try to stay dry and have a great weekend!

Okay -- enough is enough! When do we start building an arc?

Posted by: Anonymous We live out by Callisburg and on the 29th, we had almost eleven inches. Had to pour out the rain gage twice.
