Well, summer officially arrived yesterday at 12:45am...and it is definitely going to feel like summer today (and for the next 7 days for that matter)!  Highs will be in the upper 90s and heat index values will be 100-105 for at least the next week.  So, I thought it would be a good time to remind everybody of some hot weather safety tips...

*Check on the elderly
*Protect small children from the sun
*Have plenty of water and shade for pets
*Dring lots of water (avoid alcohol and caffeine)
*Wear sunscreen
*Wear light colored clothing
*Never leave children or pets in a closed vehicle
(Can reach 140-190 degrees in 30 minutes)

A heat advisory might be issued for the area later today.  Heat advisory criteria for Texoma:

*Heat index greater than 105
*Morning low temperatures greater than 75 degrees
*And both of the above for at least 2 days

So, remember to take it easy and to avoid the heat if at all possible.  Have a great week!

Alcohol and heat, baaad, very bad. Alcohol is a diuretic, it will make your body dehydrate even more rapidly. This is why so many people drown in lakes. They don't realize how much faster the alcohol will affect them in the heat.

I just asked a woman yesterday to please check on her dog that she left in her car. The poor thing was barking for someone to come get him out. I can't believe that people do this to their pets. Save your pets life..Leave them at home.

With temps near 100, it only takes a couple of minutes for a child or pet to die in a hot car. Everyone should be alert and watch for children or pets left in vehicles.
