SHERMAN, Tex. -- The City of Sherman now has a new notification system. Fire Chief Jeff Jones says the 'Code Red' system allows him to record messages during emergencies like severe weather, gas leaks, or water main breaks, to either the entire city or just the affected areas.

Right now about 17,000 numbers are programmed in the system, but residents can go to the City of Sherman’s website or call the fire department to add a cell phone number or business line to the system.

"If you're outdoors and bad weather approaches, we have outdoor warning sirens for that purpose. If you're inside and you're watching a cable channel or some other show that maybe isn't preempted by that warning message, this will actually ring their telephone and give you that important information," Sherman Fire Chief Jeff Jones says.

If you do not want to be in the system or just want more information, check the links below.
