ARDMORE, Okla. -- Christmas is eight days away, and time is growing short for a local charity trying to help provide toys for kids in need. Ardmore Toys for Tots say they are still thousands of toys short of their goal, and organizers fear several hundred kids in Carter County may not even get gifts this Christmas.

The worst fear for many parents is not being able to provide for their kids. For Deatra Franks that fear is a reality.

Franks recently lost her job, and without an income she was scared her two kids would not have the bare necessities, let alone Christmas gifts.

"Now I’m just looking for a job that’s going to pay the bills. Christmas is the last thing on my mind," Franks says.

Christmas is also the last thing on Kerri Quigley’s mind. She's caring for her 11-year old son, Hyland, who was recently been confined to a wheel chair by a disease that will eventually take his life.

Most of Quigley's finances go towards Hyland's medical bills and trips to the doctor’s office.

"That was cutting into Christmas. We have to count on to pay for gas."

Both Quigley and Franks will be able to give their kids toys this Christmas thanks to Toys for Tots, something they say is the best Christmas gift of all.

Without donations, other Ardmore-area families may have to go without because the demand for toys is still high. In fact, Toys for Tots organizer Michelle Harris says they are about 6,000 toys short.

"We’re having to stop because were running of out of toys. As you can see, these boxes from this morning have emptied to nothing," Harris says.

There is still time to make a donation and make Christmas bright for Carter County families.

"If a toy brings a smile to a child’s face, that’s the best thing ever."

You've got just four more days to drop off those toys for Toys for Tots and help families like the Quigleys and the Franks.

This is our final week to gather up those new unwrapped toys for local kids in need, and we need your help!

In Ardmore, we're short of our goal of 12,000 toys. We need about 6,000 more. In Sherman, we've collected almost 19,000 toys toward our goal of 30,000.

So come out and drop off a toy to any of our Toys for Tots locations in Sherman or Ardmore, which you can find here.

Head on out to the Ardmore and Sherman Wal-Marts on Tuesday. KXII will be live at both locations from 5:30 a.m.- 5:30 p.m.
